Every Chinese new year in Singapore, we are bombarded by various versions from Yusheng. From the Prosperity variety to the Abundance types, from the traditional chinese resturants to franchieses like Baker's Inn, everyone jumps into the mix (pun intended).

Well, Lai Wah Restaurant claims to be slightly different... they claims to have invented the Yusheng. So much for it being a "tradititonal" dish eh. So head down to Bendemeer Road for the alledged original Yusheng.

This time round, we went for a simple lunch which set us back about $24 per pax.

We started with a simple dish of stirfried veggies. It is said that you can tell alot about the kitchen of a resutarant based on how they prepare their simplest dish.

This plate of veggies can only be described as ... carefully cooked. It was not limpy as I expected and it was tastey. The sause was soaked through the greens and a real pleasure to the last leaf.

The second dish we tucked into is a in house invention, the salted egg encrusted "Crispy Squid With Salted Egg Yolk" speciality. This dish should be a key part of your order if you are making a trip down, I had to fight against my inner demon to keep myself from ordering another one. I would definitely go back again just for this single dish. Truely they are the original inventors.

The level of saltiness was balanced well with the freshness of the squid. It was fried such that it was crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. A must try!

we ended our office lunch hour stint with a dash of carbs!

Noodles! what can go wrong with noodles in soupy gravy? nothing apparently here.

What i really like was the serving of chicken in the mix which provided the perk i needed in each serving.

It was generous, and for someone who really likes to match my main with meat, this dish was a pleasure to savor.

I will definitely visit here again, and tapau if need be!
